Had a second lovely dinner with my friend and her son at the food market right next to their home. It was a relaxed, low-key way for Dad and I to spend our last evening in Singapore. I loved getting to see where Irene and her son live and being able to put the life I now see mostly on Facebook in a real context. And Papa and I both really appreciated being able to see a bit of the locals’ side of Singapore, not just the touristy spots. It also didn’t hurt that the food — fish and chips, chicken rice, prawns with black bean sauce, greens with a savory sauce, and a pork-and-egg-noodle dish — was delicious and just as enjoyable as our dinner company!
Here’s hoping that it won’t be another nearly 14 years before she and I get to visit each other again!
