Ringing in 2014

This was the second year in a row that I rang in the new year with my dad at his home in the Philippines. Filipino’s love their fireworks. No, seriously, they love their fireworks. You start hearing them go off two days before New Year’s Eve and they keep going off for three or four days into the new year. The vast majority of the ones that are set off are not by pyrotechnic professionals. Folks just buy them and set them off themselves in the streets or their backyards.

Yes, hundreds of folks end up in the hospital every year with fireworks-related injuries, but that doesn’t stop them.

So here are some photos and a video clip from last night’s festivities as we watched the fireworks and sparklers from my dad’s front porch. May 2014 be a wonderful year for you and yours.
